Explore the fundamentals of drawing in this beginner-friendly workshop! Learn how to bring your ideas to life through observation, line, shape, value, and composition. This class will introduce you to the essential techniques and concepts of drawing, perfect for anyone looking to build confidence and develop a strong foundation in the visual arts.

You’ll cover:

  • Drawing Tools: Explore a variety of drawing materials and learn how different tools can create unique marks and effects.
  • Line & Shape: Practice creating confident lines, basic shapes, and forms while developing hand-eye coordination.
  • Shading & Value: Learn how to use light and dark values to create depth, dimension, and a sense of form.
  • Composition: Discover the fundamentals of arranging shapes and objects to create balanced and engaging drawings.
  • Observation: Develop techniques for drawing what you see and translating objects, forms, and proportions onto the page.

By the end of the session, you'll have a better understanding of the core principles of drawing and the skills to continue developing your own artwork. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required!

Ray Fehrenbach | Art Educator 

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Ray Fehrenbach attended UW – Green Bay & UW – Oshkosh where his field of study was the fine arts. His main focus being classical drawing & printmaking.

For 10 years he worked inside the comic book industry, working full time as the Art Director for Kitchen Sink Press, where he worked with artists such as Will Ebner (Spirit), Harvey Kurtzman (Mad Magazine / Playboy), Milton Caniff (Steve Canyon), Mark Schultz (3 Time Best Artist), Kevin Eastman (Ninja Turtles), Pete Poplaski, Denis Kitchen, and Charles Burns.

His Freelance client list includes, Dark Horse, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Fantagraphic Books, Eclipse Comics, & CPM LTD. Currently, he has focused on his freelance career, displaying his drawing and paintings throughout Wisconsin.
