Discover the beautiful tradition of pysanky—the Ukrainian art of decorating Easter eggs using wax-resist designs and vibrant dyes. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll use a kistka, a traditional beeswax-filled tool warmed over a candle flame, to create intricate patterns on real blown-out eggs. Along the way, you’ll learn about the history of pysanky and the meaning behind traditional colors and symbols. All tools and materials are provided.
Please dress accordingly, as the dyes may stain clothing. Because the process involves hot beeswax, participants must be 12 or older. Participants ages 12–15 must be accompanied by an adult.
This hands-on workshop is facilitated by Olga Halaburda Hietpas. Proceeds will support a Catholic monastery in western Ukraine that serves individuals experiencing war trauma and addiction. The monastery is located in the Carpathian Mountains and operates a center for spiritual and psychological renewal. It provides year-round programs for those in need of healing.
